Harvard Art Museums

Free every day (open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am–5pm) and just steps away from Harvard Square, Harvard Art Museums welcomes visitors from around the corner and around the world to enjoy one of the largest and most renowned art collections in North America. Masterpieces from their collection of more than a quarter million works include paintings by Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Georgia O’Keeffe and Jackson Pollock; contemporary works by living artists such as Bosco Sodi, Ai Wei Wei and Kerry James Marshall; and a variety of remarkable objects from ancient cultures in the Mediterranean, Near East and Far East. In addition, they showcase an even wider range of works spanning diverse media, genres and eras through an exciting lineup of special exhibitions.

The Calderwood Courtyard is any visitor’s first stop; it offers not only panoramic views into surrounding galleries and up through the museums’ five main floors, but also a gathering space to meet friends, a comfortable spot to enjoy a cup of coffee in Jenny’s Cafe plus access to the array of gifts, books and memorabilia available in the museum shop. Pop in for a quick look or stay a while—either way, everyone is welcome here!

Exhibitions, Events and News

The Special Exhibitions Gallery presents important new research on artists and artistic practice, and the University Galleries are programmed in consultation with Harvard faculty to support coursework. Lectures, workshops, films, performances, special events and other programs are held throughout the year at the museums. The last Thursday of every month Harvard Art Museums is open until 9pm for an evening of art, fun, food and more during Harvard Art Museums at Night! This event is free and open to everyone.
