Weekend Guide: June 8-10

Festivals, dogs, and dance this weekend in Cambridge.

Explore Cambridge, MA this weekend with our top four must-see events, plus two very exciting events to add to your calendar.

MIT Commencement | June 8

Congrats to the Grads! Sadly MIT's graduation is not open to the public, but we couldn't keep it off of our weekend guide, especially with this year’s commencement speaker.  MIT is excited to welcome Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer for Facebook for Commencement Exercises.

We're so proud of all the graduates that have made Cambridge home during their college career.  If their mind-boggling hacks are any indication of their creativity and ingenuity, we can only imagine the ways in which they’ll change the world.

To celebrate their commencement, we’ve rounded up some of our all-time favorite hacks (aka pranks) that MIT Students actually pulled off while studying here.  Read parts 1, 2 and 3 here.

Watch it online: Here at 7:30a

Dance for World Community Festival | June 9

The Dance for World Community Festival in Harvard Square is truly a unique event that you won’t want to miss. At the free, all-day festival on June 9th, visitors will be entertained by dance performances on five different stages from ninety local performing companies, learn dance from the professionals themselves and hear about great non-profits that are doing work in our community.

This is one festival that you’ll definitely want to stay until the end.  From 6-8p, show off the moves you learned during the day with other dancers in the parking lot at 1151 Mass Ave.

Dance it: Noon-8p

Dragon Boat Festival | June 9-10

This weekend, you’ll see a rather unusual sight in the Charles River.  Instead of the usual kayaker or rower, the river will be filled with Hong Kong style Dragons Boats for the 39th annual Dragon Boat Festival.

The annual festival, which happens in both Boston and Cambridge will feature dragon boat races, Asian street food, and cultural performances for all ages. The Dragon Boat races begin on Saturday and end on Sunday with the traditional festival.

See it: Saturday from 7a-2p and Sunday from 7a-5p

Dogs & Drafts | June 12

We know. We know… This event may not take place during the weekend, but we couldn’t NOT include an event featuring puppies and beer.  Can you blame us?

Grab your leash and your four-legged friend and head over to the ultra dog-friendly Kimpton Marlowe Hotel in partnership with Red Dog Resort & Spa for craft beer and delicious bites.  Sip on beer from Castle Island Brewing Co this week., while you enter raffles for you and your dog.  Proceeds from the raffle will benefit Great Dog Rescue New England.

If your dog already has a puppy play date scheduled for June 12th, be sure to mark your calendars for the following Dogs & Drafts nights; July 10, August 14, September 18, and October 9.

See it: 5-7p
