Everything you need to know about The Christmas Revels

Celebrate the season with a true Cambridge tradition!

For those of you who love the Revels RiverSing, you definitely won’t want to miss out on the theatrical celebration - The Christmas Revels. The Revels are one of Cambridge’s most beloved holiday traditions, perfect for the whole family.  Dazzle your senses as you travel into another time filled with magical performances, which includes rhythmic beats, intricate costumes, and ornate set designs.

Gather your family members and loved ones for this one-of-a-kind holiday tradition, which has been passed down for over four decades.

Founded in 1971, the Revels combine theatrical and musical experiences through dance and storytelling. Stemming from a history of cultural celebrations, the Revels build ties between various people and cultures through music and dance. Highlighting the past and informing the future, the Revels use songs and stories that are passed down from generation to generation.

Each year, The Christmas Revels features a different theme, this year the theme is “A Venetian Celebration of the Winter Solstice.”  This year travel to Venice to celebrate the Feast of the Seven Fishes with the Doge of Venice-- who has a very difficult choice to make... Who makes the best puttanesca in town? Expect to see a breathtaking 2.5-hour performance with a brief, 15-minute intermission.

The Christmas Revels will be taking place at the Sanders Theatre at Harvard University. If you plan on driving, enjoy free parking at the Broadway Garage located at 7 Felton Street. Please note, the garage will open one hour before the show and will close one hour after the show ends.

Sanders Theatre is located at 45 Quincy Street between Oxford and Kirkland Street. It’s also accessible by bus and the T near Harvard Square. If you’re heading over from Harvard Square, head northeast on Brattle Street/Massachusetts Ave.

If you can’t attend the first performance on December 8th, there are 17 chances to see The Christmas Revels. There will be performances until December 27th!
