The Odyssey in Ulysses: A Comparative Conversation

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of James Joyce’s "Ulysses," join A.R.T. on Monday, Feb. 28 for a virtual conversation exploring the connections between this iconic work and the source material that fundamentally inspired it: Homer’s "Odyssey." Classical studies scholar Joel Christensen (Brandeis University), Joyce scholar Douglas Mao (Johns Hopkins University), and noted playwright Kate Hamill ("Sense and Sensibility") will juxtapose a scene from Hamill’s new adaptation of "The Odyssey," currently in development at A.R.T., exploring how the contemporary work is in dialogue with both the original epic poem and the landmark modernist novel.

A.R.T.’s Civically Speaking series features virtual lectures, conversations and performance events on history, politics, justice and the meaning of democracy.
