Practical Philosophy for Living: Aristotle
This workshop on Thursday, Dec. 1 will discuss a few of Aristotle's ideas on how to live a happy life. No prior knowledge of his teachings are necessary: only bring an open mind and a passion for learning. In Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle examines the timeless philosophical question: what does it mean to be a "good" person? This leads to other important questions such as: what makes for a "good" life? Aristotle suggests that there are many expressions of "good" which can vary according to temperament and circumstance. For one who is poor, wealth seems to be the ultimate good. While, for someone who is ill, good health is their goal. There is one good that all human beings aspire to regardless of circumstances, and that is happiness.
