Poetry for Grief & Healing

Poetry for Grief & Healing

Join poet, educator, and artivist Amanda Shea in a poetry writing workshop about healing from grief on Sunday, Apr. 7. The workshop will include a meditation, writing prompts, and an invitation to share with the group. No previous writing experience is required. The workshop will take place in the Bigelow Chapel glass wing. Writing while grieving has been known to boost the immune system and increase mood and well-being. Writing can also help release difficult emotions and is a tool for self-expression.

Amanda Shea is a renowned spoken-word poet and multidisciplinary artist, educator, artivist, publicist (Brandie Blaze), and mother. She has hosted numerous poetry events, including BAMSFest (Boston Art & Music Soul Festival), a nonprofit organization that breaks down racial and social barriers to arts, music, and culture across Greater Boston. She also co-founded and curated five iterations of Activating ARTivism, a community festival to amplify POC through art, activism, and resistance. In 2021, she was named one of WBUR The ARTery's 25 artists of color transforming the cultural landscape, and in 2022 she won the inaugural category for Spoken Word Artist of the Year at the Boston Music Awards. She was recently featured in a BBC News article reflecting on Phillis Wheatley's legacy.
