Materials Lab Workshop: 19th-Century French Graphite Drawing Techniques

Friday, Oct. 13 join visiting artist and drawing scholar Timothy David Mayhew for an overview of graphite drawings by 19th-century French artists, exploring their techniques and materials. After sharing examples of exquisite graphite works from the museums’ collections, Mayhew will lead a hands-on session in the Materials Lab, where attendees will experiment with complex hatching styles of dessin d’Academie plus create graphite drawings following centuries-old practices taught in French academies and ateliers. Registration is required and space is limited. The $15 materials fee must be paid to confirm registration. Please email am_register@harvard.edu or call 617-495-1440 to join the waitlist. The minimum age to participate is 14; no previous experience required.
